Drs. Bonnie Maslin and Yehuda Nir will be hosting a reception in honor
of Jimmy Dahroug,
a DFNYC-endorsed candidate running for the New York State
Senate in District 3 (southern Suffolk County - Brentwood, East Patchogue, Shirley,
Farmingville). Suggested donations are $100 - $2,500 with a suggested donation
for DFNYC members of $50.
Taking back the state senate is a crucial election goal for 2008,
especially before the redistricting of congressional seats with the 2010
census. When Jimmy ran in 2006, he came very close to beating long term
incumbent Republican Ceasar Trunzo,
and the election was one of the two closest senate elections in the state.
In 2008, Jimmy is poised to win a rematch with a solid ground
campaign and the high Democratic turnout of a presidential election
year. But perhaps even more importantly, Jimmy is a great advocate for
the issues we stand for as grassroots progressives. He understands that
we don't just want to send Democrats to Albany, we want to send good,
progressive, courageous Democrats who will stand up for our values.
