Rally to oppose term limits extension

City Hall

Sunday, October 12, at noon

The Mayor has proposed an extension of term limits so that he can run again. Instead of going to the people, who voted for term limits twice, he has chosen to push a bill through the City Council.

Join DFNYC'ers, many elected officals, and many, many others who support the voice of the people. The rally begins at noon on Sunday; show up early (around 11:30) so you can get through security in time (there could be a long line).

"I HATE TO BE THE ONE TO TELL YOU THIS"
Directed by Gregory Keller

Monday, October 6
7:00 pm
New York Theater Workshop
79 E. 4th St. in Manhattan, between the Bowery and 2nd Ave.
Admission is free

Mark Crispin Miller is a Professor of Media, Culture and Communication at NYU and a longtime proponent of democracy in the United States. Join him for a public meditation on the issues of the minute. Miller's books include The Bush Dyslexicon: Observations on a National Disorder; Cruel and Unusual: Bush/Cheney's New World Order; Fooled Again: The Real Case for Electoral Reform; and, most recently, Loser Take All: Election Fraud and the Subversion of Democracy, 2000-2008. He is, as well, a prolific blogger, at News from Underground. Miller is also well-known as a speaker and performer. After 9/11, when his criticism of the Bush regime was unofficially verboten, he turned to theatre, and started doing a kind of journalistic stand-up at the Cherry Lane Theater. From there he moved on to NYTW, where, working with director Gregory Keller and co-performer Steve Cuiffo, he wrote and starred in Patriot Act: A Public Meditation, presented by the Workshop in the summer of 2004 as a contribution to the public discourse prior to the last presidential election. Four years later, the discussion continues.

RALLY AGAINST OVERTURNING CURRENT TERM LIMITS
Written by Josh Silverstein
Saturday, 04 October 2008
DATE: Sunday, October 5, 2008

TIME: 2:00 pm

Where: City Hall

Sponsors: The People Have Spoken Coalition

The People Have Spoken Coalition has formed to galvanize New Yorkers into defending their referendum vote(s) that imposed two-term limits on New York City's elected officials (Mayor, Controller, Public Advocate, City Council members, and Borough Presidents).

The People Have Spoken Coalition is a cross-section of New Yorkers—diverse in race, age, ethnicity, and occupation—who oppose any legislative override of the People's Term Limits Law.

"We call upon our fellow New Yorkers anyone and everyone to join us in this important citywide effort in maintaining the existing law," Norman Siegel, who is a member of the coalition, said. "The City Council should not undo the people's will."
