Tuesday, September 18, 2007 is a primary day in New York City. In the absence
of any well-known statewide candidates, there has not been much publicity, although
there are a multitude of obscure local races.
The most controversial contests are in Brooklyn:
a Surrogate Court race between ShawnDya Simpson and Diana Johnson,
a Civil Court race in District 5 between Karen Yellen and Noach Dear,
and a Civil Court race in District 6 between Katherine Levine and
Sharon Hudson. Brooklyn members would be well advised to mark your
calenders and read up on these contests:
Races for party offices in the other boroughs include:
- Manhattan (Dem) - District Leaders, County Committee, Delegates to Judicial
Committee
- Bronx (Rep) - Committee, County Committee, Delegates to Judicial Committee
- Queens (Rep) - Committee, County Committee, Delegates to Judicial Committee
- Staten Island - none
The Bronx, Queens and Staten Island District Attorneys are seeking
re-election in November but face no significant opposition.
A complete list of candidates is available from the
NYC Board of Elections Website.
You can find your districts at
NYC.gov.
The general election is on November 6, 2007
