As you probably know, Con Ed wants to raise your rates.  Officially, the rate increase is listed at about 11%, but that's not the whole truth. Residential rates would rise by about 17% under the plan.  But the real number is 36% --  that's how much Con Ed wants to raise your monthly charge just for being hooked up.
