Help Turn All of NYC Blue (NY-13)

The most hotly-contested local congressional race for 2008 is the 13th CD, comprising all of Staten Island and Bay Ridge in Brooklyn. It's currently held by Bush water-carrier Vito Fossella. 2006 challenger Steve Harrison is running again, and this time he's getting an early start (last time he waited until Bill de Blasio decided not to run). Also running is Council Member and Brooklyn machine favorite Domenic Recchia.

Harrison recently received the overwhelming endorsement (85+%) from both the Democratic Organization of the County of Richmond and the Staten Island Democratic Association (one conservative one progressive). He has the support of Democrats in the district; Recchia (who doesn't even live in the district) has the support of Brooklyn Democratic County Leader Vito Lopez. DFNYC organizer Merle McEldowney, along with Truth 13, is organizing voter registration and flyering trips to the Staten Island ferry.
