Our very own Jeremiah Frei-Pearson, Bernadette Evangelist and Dan Jacoby joined the rally and March Against Hate this past Sunday in Astoria, Queens. The event was in response to a hate crime committed against members of Carmen's House, a sanctuary for gay and trans-gendered young people. The Queens Chronicle covered the rally as did our intrepid DFNYC photographer as you can see below.

9/22/08: From Jeremiah: "Astoria is like New York City - our diversity is one of our greatest strengths. The fact that there are people who attack others because of their sexual orientation is very sad, and it threatens to turn that strength into a weakness. On the other hand, the community's response to these hate crimes should make us very proud. We had about 75 people with us when we began marching, and the march ended with over 100 people because folks on the street saw why we were marching and joined in. That says a lot. The community made it clear that those who commit hate crimes do not represent the majority of Astorians. Many thanks to all of the DFNYCers who attended and helped put this event together."
