Tyrrell Eiland (I)
2009 NYC Mayoral Candidate

Below is a statement from Tyrrell Eiland to Democracy for NYC Members

Dear Democracy for NYC Members:

I’m Tyrrell Eiland. I’m running on the New Voice Party ballot line for Mayor in the General Election.

I’ve worked for the White House. I’ve managed housing initiatives for large city government, and I’m establishing charter schools.

My vision is a vibrant environment for small businesses that are the soul of our City’s economy and character.

Our neighborhoods count on small businesses for the services they provide and as partners in protecting their quality of life. To aid in revitalization I will create incentives to increase the number of small businesses in lower income communities and increase resources for individuals who seek to become entrepreneurs.

My vision is for a green New York.

I will mandate that government buildings follow green practices and those developers of new projects pass a new “green” test.

My vision is that every resident has access to safe, clean and decent affordable housing.

We must mandate that all Public and private housing be inspected and scrutinized for public safety structural integrity, and building maintenance.  We must provide for additional housing for those individuals who do not quality for public housing programs and cannot afford private developments.

Most importantly - we must create programs that transition public housing residents into homeowners. Increasing a neighborhood’s homeownership increases the pride in - and commitment to - keeping that neighborhood stable.

My vision is for all children in the City have a right to a public education that is not determined by their socio-economic background or location within the city.

My administration would foster more local control of our schools with a stronger emphasis on parental participation and community involvement.

I will work with teachers, administrators, community leaders, the State legislature and Governor - to ensure our city has both the resources and policies to produce a system that is exceptional.  As Mayor, I will create more educational opportunities at CUNY campuses for city residents who desire higher education.

Our City is need of a new vision and leadership that will usher us into a new level of advancement; I hope to become the New Voice…for a New York.
