Congressional District 11 - Staten Island and Brooklyn

Staten Island

Incumbent Republican Michael Grimm currently represents the Congressional seat that includes Staten Island and part of southwest Brooklyn. (The new 11th, the old 13th.) He is being challenged by Democrat Mark Murphy and also a Green party candidate, Hank Bardel.

Background:  This is the seat that was represented by Republican Vito Fossella for many years, until he resigned in 2008 after a scandal in Virginia involving a DWI, an extramarital affair, and a child from that affair. Democrats Steve Harrison and Mike McMahon ran in the primary in 2008; McMahon won the primary and the general election, holding the seat for two years. Notably, McMahon voted against Affordable Care Act.  Republican Michael Grimm beat McMahon in 2010 and currently holds the seat.
