Democracy for NYC (DFNYC) is committed to the ideals espoused by Democracy for America, the organization founded by Howard Dean, and the national network of local coalition groups dedicated to the same.

We develop innovative ways to advocate for the issues that matter to our members and support legislation which has a positive effect in our communities.  We promote transparency and ethical practices in government.  We engage people in the political process and give them the tools to organize, communicate, mobilize, and enact change on the local, state, and national level.

This is an open seat, vacated when Assemblymember Eric Stevenson was accused of bribery and corruption charges, and was found guilty and sentenced to 3 years in prison this past May.

NY State Senate District 8

 

NYS Senate - District 8

Long Island - Nassau County, south shore

Democrat Dave Dennenberg is Democrat on the ballot running against Republican Michael Venditto. However, Dennenberg recently dropped out after his former law partners accused him of stealing funds through improper billing and expenses.  This is an open seat, as Senator Charles Fuschillo resigned in December of 2013 to serve as the CEO of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.

Election Date:   Tuesday, November 4, 2014

Long Island - Suffolk County, south shore

Incumbent Republican Lee Zelden is leaving to run against Tim Bishop in the 1st Congressional District. Democrat Adrienne Esposito is now running against Tom Croci. This is the district where Cesear Trunzo was the Republican incumbent for many years. DFNYC supported Jimmy Dahroug when he challenged Trunzo in 2004 and 2006.   

Election Date:   Tuesday, November 4, 2014

Location:  The 3rd district is located on the south shore of Suffolk County. It is shaped like a west facing lobster claw that cuts out the area around Bohemia.  Click here for a map of the district at incumbent Lee Zeldin's website.

Male District Leader - 50 - Brooklyn

NYS Male District Leader for Assembly Dist. 50 - Brooklyn

This is the seat that Lincoln Restler until he lost by 19 votes in 2012 to Chris Olechowski, who was backed by Vito Lopez.  Olechowski later resigned, and was replaced by Frank Cavaliere. This year, Cavaliere is being challenged by Nick Rizzo, who is supported by New Kings Democrats and Lincoln Restler.
