Democracy for NYC (DFNYC) is committed to the ideals espoused by Democracy for America, the organization founded by Howard Dean, and the national network of local coalition groups dedicated to the same.
We work both locally and nationally to ensure that fiscally responsible and socially progressive candidates are elected at all levels of government. We develop innovative ways to advocate for the issues that matter to our members and support legislation which has a positive effect in our communities. We promote transparency and ethical practices in government. We engage people in the political process and give them the tools to organize, communicate, mobilize, and enact change on the local, state, and national level.

NY State-3rd Congressional District
Jack Martins (R) and Thomas Suozzi (D) are in a tense battle to fill Representative Steve Israel’s (D) in the 3rd Congressional District for the New York. The National Republican Congressional Committee has committed $1.13 million for attack ads against Suozzi. Suozzi is the former Nassau County Executive, and ran for Governor in 2006, falling to Elliot Spitzer in the primary. The district runs along the North Shore of Long Island and stretches from northeast Queens, through Nassau to Suffolk County. The race is considered a neck-and-neck affair.
Israel, who has represented the district since 2013 and previously the 2nd District from 2001-2013, announced his retirement in January.
