This is from longtime DFNYC member (and our former treasurer) Lewis Cohen:

Where: Shop Studios (528 West 39th Street), between 10th & 11th Avenues

When:  Monday, October 10th, 6:30-8:30

Dear Friends,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to one of New Jersey's rising political stars: Peter Jacob, a Democrat running for the 7th congressional district seat in the Garden State. (www.peterforcongress.com)

The 7th district is one that leans Republican and, hence, would be a choice pick-up in the Democrats attempt to take back the House of Representatives in November. The incumbent, conservative Republican Rep. Leonard Lance, has been in office for four terms and, during that time, he has tacked hard to the right on many issues - including climate change, supporting common sense gun laws and the defunding of Planned Parenthood. The residents of NJ-07 need a fresh representative voice in Washington, a voice that espouses true progressive ideals and one that places people over politics.

Peter, a social worker by training, has been endorsed by AFSCME, the AFL-CIO, CWA, PDA and Bernie Sanders' new progressive organization Our Revolution. In fact, it was the infectious energy and spirit of the recent Bernie Sanders presidential campaign that motivated Peter to take the political plunge and pursue a career in public service.

I am certain that if he is elected to Congress, Peter will do an impressive job of representing his constituents. He will also be a loud and clear progressive voice who will unabashedly and enthusiastically speak out for women's rights, the rights of the LGBTQ community, the need to ban fracking and protect our environment as well as to try to take guns out of the hands of people that should not have access to them.

I sincerely hope you can drop by our venue, Shop Studios (528 West 39th Street), on October 10th for this important event, a cocktail reception to benefit the candidacy of this up-and-coming progressive candidate from New Jersey (please see attached invitation). I believe strongly that once you meet Peter Jacob you will be inspired to support him and help spread the word about his exciting candidacy.

All the best,

Lewis H. Cohen
Finance Director
Peter Jacob for Congress
