The New York federal primaries, the Congressional races, take place on Tuesday, June 28th, 2016 and there are two important open seats that will be contested in the NY metro area:

The NY 13th CD--  Harlem and parts of the Bronx

This is the longtime district of Charles Rangel, who is retiring after many decades in office.  The full list of candidates is here: https://ballotpedia.org/New_York%27s_13th_Congressional_District_election,_2016

The two main candidates are:

a) Keith Wright-- the longtime state Assemblyman from Harlem and chairman of the Manhattan Democratic party. Keith Wright has been endorsed by Congressman Rangel and his website is here:

http://www.wright2016.com/

b) Adriano Espaillat--   The longtime state Senator from Upper Manhattan who has run twice previously for this office. Adriano Espaillat is endorsed by Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and others.  His website is here:

http://www.espaillat2016.com/

The NY 19th CD--  This is an upstate district which includes parts of Dutchess and Ulster Counties.

The full ballot for this race is here:

https://ballotpedia.org/New_York%27s_19th_Congressional_District_election,_2016

The two candidates are:

a) Zephyr Teachout --  Zephyr is a Fordham professor and longtime activist who has been endorsed by DFA. She is one of our members. Her website is here:

http://www.zephyrteachoutforcongress.com/

b) Will Yandik-  He is a farmer and environmental activist, and a local elected official. Yandik is a young up and comer about whom we have heard good things.

If you live in the 13th CD or the 19th CD be sure to vote on the 28th and if you believe strongly in any of these candidates they can use any help you can offer.  DFNYC has chosen not to endorse in any federal primary races this year for organizational reasons.

In the 13th CD, we know and respect both Assemblyman Wright and Senator Espaillat, they are both terrific progressive electeds, and  you could not go wrong voting for or supporting either of them.

In the 19th CD, we are not as unbiased.  Zephyr Teachout is a longtime DFNYC member/supporter who is our friend.  She is an outspoken advocate of getting big money out of politics.  We endorsed her in her race for governor in 2014 and Democracy for America has endorsed her Congressional race.
