About Democracy for NYC
Democracy for NYC (DFNYC) is committed to the ideals espoused by Democracy for America, the organization founded by Howard Dean, and the national network of local coalition groups dedicated to the same.
We work both locally and nationally to ensure that fiscally responsible and socially progressive candidates are elected at all levels of government. We develop innovative ways to advocate for the issues that matter to our members and support legislation which has a positive effect in our communities. We promote transparency and ethical practices in government. We engage people in the political process and give them the tools to organize, communicate, mobilize, and enact change on the local, state, and national level.

DFNYC is proud to work with Marriage Equality as a member of NEAT, a coalition of progressive groups that are working together to help get as many states as possible to pass laws allowing all of their citizens the equal right to get married to the persons they love.
The House in Illinois, one of our country's biggest states, is stalling on their expected vote on marriage before May 24th. They are the last and biggest state we'd love to see go for marriage before the June SCOTUS decision. NEAT is sponsoring local phone banks and are looking for volunteers to call Illinois. They want a surge of volunteers now to encourage a vote for marriage equality in Illinois.
The NEAT phone banks will be held on the following dates at SEIU headquarters. Please join us if you can:

Thursday, May 23rd at 6:30-9:00pm - for pizza and in person phone bank in NYC
Tuesday, May 28th, at 6:30-9:00pm - for pizza and in person phone bank in NYC
Thursday, May 30th, at 6:30-9:00pm - for pizza and in person phone bank in NYC

SEIU, 330 W. 42nd Street, 7th Floor (This is the green Art Deco building on the south side of 42nd, not the beige building at 43rd & 8th.)
