About Democracy for NYC
Democracy for NYC (DFNYC) is committed to the ideals espoused by Democracy for America, the organization founded by Howard Dean, and the national network of local coalition groups dedicated to the same.
We work both locally and nationally to ensure that fiscally responsible and socially progressive candidates are elected at all levels of government. We develop innovative ways to advocate for the issues that matter to our members and support legislation which has a positive effect in our communities. We promote transparency and ethical practices in government. We engage people in the political process and give them the tools to organize, communicate, mobilize, and enact change on the local, state, and national level.

The 2013 elections for NYC government offices are coming up in September and November. Candidates have to petition to get on the ballot, and this year, petitioning starts on Tuesday, June 4th and goes through mid-July.
We're bringing back Midnight Petitioning Madness - with Yetta Kurland & Gale Brewer! When: Monday night, June 3rd - Join us late - 11:15pm. At the stroke of midnight, we'll sign petitions for various candidates - mayor, city council, etc. Where: Bunga Den, a fun bar at 137 West 14th Street in Manhattan, between 6th & 7th Avenues. It's within 2 or 3 blocks of almost every subway - you'll be home at a reasonable hour. (If you want to be.) Candidates: This event takes place in the 3rd City Council district, and Yetta Kurland, DFNYC-endorsed candidate will be joining us. There will also be representatives with petitions from Bill De Blasio's campaign, Mark Levine's campaign, and we're reaching out to others. (Update: We weren't able to get petition sheets for Tish James, but we can put you in touch with her campaign if you would like to petition for her.) All campaigns are welcome! |
