About Democracy for NYC

Democracy for NYC (DFNYC) is committed to the ideals espoused by Democracy for America, the organization founded by Howard Dean, and the national network of local coalition groups dedicated to the same.

EndorsedLogo PlasticWe work both locally and nationally to ensure that fiscally responsible and socially progressive candidates are elected at all levels of government. We develop innovative ways to advocate for the issues that matter to our members and support legislation which has a positive effect in our communities.  We promote transparency and ethical practices in government.  We engage people in the political process and give them the tools to organize, communicate, mobilize, and enact change on the local, state, and national level.

Agenda:  We'll be discussing proposals for Instant Run-off Voting in NYC, in light of the recent discussion around the Public Advocate election (being held today, Tuesday - polls open till 9pm!), the upcoming ballot question on casinos, and how the government shutdown will - or should - affect the 2014 midterm elections.

When: Wednesday, Sept. 4th, 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Where:  Peculier Pub, 145 Bleecker Street, between Thompson & LaGuardia. Look for the DFNYC signs in the back!

Subway: There are many subways nearby, including West 4th Street, the 1 to Houston, Broadway Lafayette, the 6 train to Bleecker and the N/R to Prince.

RSVP: Not required, but helps us to plan: info -at- dfnyc.org (Richard & Tracey)

Background:

Since Howard Dean's 2004 Presidential campaign, DFNYC, in conjunction with DFA, has done monthly linkups/meetups on the first Wednesday of each month.  This is a great way to meet members of DFNYC and other great progressives from around the city.
