We received this message from New Settlement Apartments about an event tomorrow, (Sat. 11/16/13) to organize around stopping the "school-to-prison pipeline" - the practice of harsh disciplinary measures for public school students.

Are you concerned about school discipline policies and practices? Passionate about finding restorative solutions? Interested to hear about what parents and students are doing to bring about change? Come to the Bronx School Justice Report Back – a fascinating look at how parents, students, and community allies frustrated by the high rates of school arrests, suspensions and summonses in the Bronx successfully petitioned the NYC Department of Education and NYPD School Safety Division to begin making drastic reductions in school policing in the Bronx. Members of the Bronx School Justice coalition will share back key accomplishments made in the past year, including a remarkable 56% drop in Bronx school arrests in just one school year. We will also host workshops on best practices and challenges of implementing restorative practices in schools; the New York City Discipline Code; safety transfers, and our methods for bringing together a broad cross-section of different community stakeholders to the table.

Come share your ideas, learn about Bronx School Justice, and help us draft a vision for where the work is headed!
