About Democracy for New York City

New York State Democrats

Launched in 1792 by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison during an expedition along the Hudson River, the Democratic Party today continues to offer New Yorkers and Americans across our nation hope and opportunity.

DNC

The Democratic National Committee plans the Party's quadrennial presidential nominating convention; promotes the election of Party candidates with both technical and financial support; and works with national, state, and local party organizations, elected officials, candidates, and constituencies to respond to the needs and views of the Democratic electorate and the nation.

Manhattan Young Democrats

The Manhattan Young Democrats is a chapter under the New York State Young Democrats, the official Youth Arm of the New York State Democratic Party. The Young Democrats, which represents Democrats from ages 16 to 36, currently operates in over 30 counties and counts over 15,000 young democrats statewide.

Their mission is to incorporate young people into the Democratic Party. The Manhattan Young Democrats attempts to accomplish this goal through a variety of core activities, such as recruiting new Democrats and registering them to vote, training Young Democrats to be effective campaign volunteers and field workers, leading campaign invasions to help Democrats win close elections, educating young voters on the issues that matter to them and communicating the Democratic message to young voters using the Internet, and reaching out to Young Democrats and giving people ways of getting involved through social events, community service and other civic activities.

Anyone who is at least 16 and under 36 (inclusive) that lives, works, or goes to school in New York County can be a member of Manhattan Young Democrats provided that one is affiliated with the Democratic party.

As a member of the Young Democrats, one networks with elected officials, both local and national. Everyone involved is passionate about the issues and wants to get things done.\\
