NEW YORK STATE GOVERNOR

New York has an unusual election this year - a  primary challenge to an incumbent Democratic Governor. After receiving 41% of the votes at the Working Families Party Convention (but loosing their endorsement), law professor Zephyr Teachout decided to challenge Gov. Cuomo in the Democratic primary. Attorneys backed by the governor have challenged Teachout's residency.  Political Satirist Randy Credico has also made the ballot.

In addition to the Democratic and Republican Parties, there are at least three (3) additionally recognized (qualified) political parties in the state of New York: Green, Working Families and Independence.

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

In New York, gubernatorial candidates frequently designate candidates for Lieutenant Governor as their running mates, but separate primaries are held, with the winners running together on the same ticket in the general election. In May 2014, after widespread speculation, the current Lieutenant Governor (LG), Robert Duffy, confirmed that he would not run for a second term. With this withdrawal, Governor Andrew Cuomo selected former Rep. Kathy Hochul as his new running mate. Zephyr Teachout is running with Tim Wu, Profession at Columbia Law Schooll.

This race has gathered attention due to the controversy surrounding efforts to get a bill passed for public funding of campaigns in New York, a measure which DFNYC and other reform groups support.  Comptroller Dinapoli has long been a supporter of campaign finance reform, but took issue with the "pilot program" set up in place of a real public funding bill.
