In the 2016 general election on November 8th, there are some competitive races for Congress and the NY State legislature in NYC and the surrounding counties.
NY 19th Congressional District
Zephyr Teachout (D)
John Faso (R)
The 19th Congressional District, which is the Catskills, and includes Duchess and Putnam counties, is an open seat this year. Chris Gibson, the Republican incumbent, is retiring. Both candidates running have formerly run for governor of New York and are known statewide. Zephyr Teachout is a member and supporter of DFNYC and we support her candidacy. NY 3rd Congressional District
The race to replace Steve Israel. Democrat Tom Suozzi is running! Click here.
NY 11th Congressional District - Staten Island and southwest Brooklyn
The only congressional seat in the city perpetually held by a Republican, though Democratic candidates have been trying since we got involved in 2004, and before that. The current incumbent, Dan Donovan, was previously the prosecutor who declined to bring charges against the police officer in the Eric Garner case. Democrat Richard Reichard is a former head of the SI Dem Association, and and has come out strongly against the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision. Reichard is challenging the incumbent Donovan. Unfortunately Ballotpedia currently rates this race as safely Republican, but with Trump at the top of the ticket, Democrats have a chance of winning in many Republican districts. Green party candidate Henry Bardel is also running. Click here for more.
NY 46th Assembly District
Though Brooklyn is overwhelmingly Democratic, this district is in Bay Ridge and Coney Island, with parts of Dyker Heights, Seagate, and Brighton Beach, some of the more Republican areas of Brooklyn. Many of us DFNYCers have experienced this over the years knocking on doors volunteering for a Dem candidate running for Congress in this district. The incumbent is Democrat Pamela Harris, and "She is being challenged by Republican Lucretia Regina-Potter, Conservative Mikhail Usher and Green Party candidate Patrick Dwyer. The Assembly post was formerly held by Alec Brook-Krasny, who resigned to accept a job in private industry." ~From the Brooklyn Reporter.

New Jersey 7th Congressional District
Peter Jacobs takes on incumbent Republican Leonard Lance. Click here.
