Democracy for NYC (DFNYC) is committed to the ideals espoused by Democracy for America, the organization founded by Howard Dean, and the national network of local coalition groups dedicated to the same.

We develop innovative ways to advocate for the issues that matter to our members and support legislation which has a positive effect in our communities.  We promote transparency and ethical practices in government.  We engage people in the political process and give them the tools to organize, communicate, mobilize, and enact change on the local, state, and national level.

NJ Congressional District 7

 

The 7th Congressional District in New Jersey, which is west of NYC, leans Republican. First time candidate Peter Jacob, a social worker of Indian-American heritage, is challenging incumbent Republican Leonard Lance.

Election Day: Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016

Candidates: Peter Jacob (D) v. Leonard Lance (R - incumbent)

Counties: Hunterdon County and portions of Essex, Somerset, Morris, Union, and Warren

The race took an ugly turn when the Democratic candidate awoke to find swastikas spray painted on his house. His opponent Leonard Lance condemned the vandalism.
